Hello Koh Phangan!
This place is everything i expected and way way more. For the first time in my life I have found a place that I resonate with, a place I feel more at home then any other place I have traveled in the world. I know its only been a couple days, but it hit me like a freeking hammer.
Today was my first real full day on the island. I went snorkeling right out side my bungalow in the morning, had breakfast by the beach, rented a scooter and explored the island. At first I thought the scooter rental was 200bhat/hour which equals $6 – then I find out that it per day. Yes, this Thailand thing is gonna work out just fine. After a quick 100baht fill of of gas, I am ready to roll. I head north, just driving where ever I want. I pass by roadside Thai food eateries, markets, gas sold by the liter and you name it. Palm trees and the open jungle road. The Gulf of Thailand to my left and nothing else matters.
Eventually I see a sign for a jungle waterfall park. The Phaeng Noi waterfall. After a few minutes of hiking up I immediately become drenched with sweat. Never mind a shirt, I haven’t had one on since after I got here. But, it’s hot…damn hot and sticky. Jungle sticky. I suppose I have a new found respect for the conditions the soldiers had to endure during the Vietnam war. So, I kinda imagined myself in that situation and it felt real – well, minus the shooting at you part.
The jungle waterfall allowed for a temporary relief from the heat until I could get back to my scooter and feel the ocean breezes.
Jungle rainstorm & more roadside Pad Thai – amazing of course. Sheesh.
Ok ok – another Thai massage by the water, a scooter ride to the 7-11 and much needed laptop time. Return emails, update the blog…ect.
But….
At some point, I received a text that the room in the house I have been renting was foreclosed on and have less than a week to get my stuff out. Oh great, just what I need to hear 1/2 way across the globe. But, my favorite family the the world are coming to my rescue and are getting my stuff out and into a storage unit for me. Very sweet. Those guys are the best and I love them dearly for it. Now we have this Thailand connection that runs deeper than anything, so it feel right that they are the ones handling my stuff. I wouldn’t trust anyone else as this is a first for me.
What the future holds, I have no idea. I will end up exactly where I am meant to be. Nothing less. So be it.
