Tomorrow is my epic travel day to Thailand.
Here is my gear list:
One 70+20 liter frame backpack. The lower compartment holds my shoes, and all of my clothes. The main section is minimally loaded with extra sandals, snorkel gear and whatnot to make room for my smaller day pack which I use as my carry on. It contains the items I would not want to live without in case my checked backpack gets “mis-placed” and will easily slide into the top main pack compartment. When I get to my destination it easily folds up to a very small size and will stuff inside my main pack.
I currently have the following in my small daypack:
HARDWARE:
Nikon D700 with 2 extra batteries – in soft lens case
Nikon 24-70 2.8mm lens – in soft lens case
10,000 MaH 5v battery pack to recharge iPhone which will act as my quick shot camera and WiFi device
500GB bus powered FW800 external Hard Drive
11″ Macbook Air with 4 GB RAM and 360 GB OWC SSD – Nice and light
WiFi range extender antenna
GoPro Hero3 Silver with WiFi remote
iPod shuffle – 8GB
iPhone 5
Multi card reader
Travel adapter plug and 220/120 step down plug
OTHER:
Thailand Lonely Planet guide book
Ear buds, passport, misc electronic cords, cables & wires and assorted goodies.
Tolitries (which must have fit in one small toiletry zipper bag)
Pen – to fill out immigration forms
Bottle of water/snacks
Neck pillow – highly recommended
The Light Behind the Blue Circles book (I totally suggest buying this book by my good friend Rob DeMayo – Amazon link)
Bag of trail mix & dried mango slices
Probiotic pills, Protandium supplement, multi vitamin, Vitamin D pill
E-mergenC packets to put in my water bottles
Hand Sanitizer – very important
After my recent month long trip to Florida, the Bahamas, Michigan and South Dakota I realized that my backpack was 1.) too heavy and 2.) packed with crap I didn’t need. So, in using that as my trial run, I was able to really plan out my backpack cargo since I will be schlepping it all over Thailand.
My goal was a 40lb. total weight load and I totally nailed that one. The smaller the better, the less weight the better. If I didn’t need it, out it went. 3 t-shirts, one pair of pants, 2 pair shorts and swim shorts. 4 packed undies (+one more worn) and 2 pair light weight hiking socks.
