Today I woke up early to take a kayak tour. A long tail and bus ride later, I was on the water. I was paired up with a single rider, a nice German lady who happened to be the only other Vegetarian in the group. So, we laughed that we were on the “meat free” boat. It also meant that we shared a vegi meal for lunch. I don’t meet many vegi Germans, so I was obviously intrigued. Of course she was totally blown away in my veganism. I guess its hard to be a vegetarian in Germany. Yeah, no doubt.
The Germans love their bread and their cheese. Yes.
The most interesting part of the day was the 100+ Chinese tourists that came before us to take the tour. Not a single one paddled, not one. Every kayak had a designated paddler. Plus, they all had umbrellas. Oh, and when it came time to take the cave tour, they all insisted that their kayak seats were wiped dry…on a kayak river tour. A couple of them even gave up and took a long tail back to the dock. Amusing.
So, here I sit Thai style on the rooftop reggae bar having a “big Chang” beer and swiping a WiFi signal. Everyone in the states is just starting their day while mine is winding down. I think tomorrow I will have a down day exploring the area sans-tour and plan out my next adventure.
