Today I decided that I needed to be adventurous and try a new bungalow down the beach. After packing up and checking out by 10am I wondered over and booked a bungalow for the night. I must have been romanticizing the meager accommodations, because after paying the rate I realized what a utter dump this place was. Sure it was on a private beach and had million dollar views, but the room was basically like camping except with a lot more potential for critters. Rather than bail I decided to tough it out and just go with the adventure. First, the roof (if you call it that) was full of open spots with a great view of the sky from the toilet (if you call it that as well.) No hot water and the place seemed like it would slide off the hill if the right breeze caught it.
While unpacking I heard heavy footsteps on my roof which was followed by a barking sound, I swear. It was the biggest gecko I have ever seen. I didn’t know they could bark.
Today, I crossed another item off my lifetime list: swimming with sharks. I drove south to a place called Shark Bay and it lived up to its name for sure. I snorkeled out to the deep water part of the bay and within seconds was surrounded by black tip reef sharks which are quite harmless unless you are a small fish. The reef was colorful and amazing. Clean, clear and full of life.
Tonight is the night I say goodbye to my German friends Simone and Daniela who are on to new adventures in Nepal. Maybe we will meet again one day.
I return to my bungalow and hear more sounds coming from the bathroom (if you want to cal it that) which turned out to be from a HUGE crab crawling around. My mosquito netting surrounding my bed will be VERY appreciated. I pray I survive the night without any unwanted visitors.

Oh, that looks safe – 220V? Sure – why not.
Since the bathroom was pretty much open air, my backpack mesh came in handy to secure the door while I was gone.
Shark Bay!
That look safe too…
