Today was my last day on Koh Phangan. I hit the reef near Koh Mah and if my GoPro battery was not dead I would have amazing reef pics to show. But no matter, it was pretty cool. After a decent breakfast I headed as far as the northern roads would take me. I followed a jungle trail, which turned to dirt, up to a remote area which I thought for sure would be devoid of any civilization, but I was wrong. A hillside bar complete with a live music stage and bar appeared from the background. Blood was spilt getting to this location, but it was worth it indeed.
Now, I was in search for the famous halfmoon party location in Baan Tai. After a lot of driving around different trails, I finally found it! 9pm was the start time and I had a few hours to go home and collect myself in preparation.
By the time I arrived to the party it was 11:30pm, and was in full go mode. Junge house music thumped through the night. Thousands of people flooded the area. Blacklights covered the jungle canopy illuminating the colors painted on banners and party goers alike. The scene was one out of a movie. People of all nationalities with one thing on their mind remained prevalent. Have fun and get wasted. I saw signs of “laughing gas” balloons, mushroom tea and “special” cigarettes. The buckets were in full force and I was amused by all of it. I had a long scooter ride back to my bungalow to the north so abstained from the revelry but had a great time watching the party.
Even though the party was a total zoo, I was able to meet a couple of cute German girls who were fresh out of college and on a several month post-school tour of southeast asia. They said they were heading to Koh Tao next, so maybe fate will allow our paths to cross again.
