I had been trying to determine the best mode of getting down to the south beaches. Train, bus or plane? Each had it’s pros…and cons. The bus option leaves at 7:30pm and takes 12 hours to the ferry and then another 4hours on the ferry. Ugh.
The train offers a sleeper car and basically had the same timeframe. ok, better – but still ugh.
I decided, quite quickly, on the plane option. It was the fastest and easiest method for me to reach my decided destination: Koh Phangan.
Koh Phangan is one of the middle sized islands in the Gulf of Thailand. Is it known for its tropical jungle paradise beaches, Full Moon parties and magnificent diving. I had no real idea what part of the island I was to end up, but like always, trust in fate to decide.
After departing Bangkok in a small prop plane, I landed in the bigger of the islands called Koh Samui. From there I purchased my ferry ticket and caught the transfer to the dock. The boat got us all there in 30 mins and once I arrived I was approached by a scooter taxi. Let’s go!
I knew in advance the beach that I had in mind, and after about 20 mins arrived to a beach called Haad Yao. This beach is located in a cove with a reef that provides amazing snorkeling which was important to me. I had a recommendation of a group of bungalows called Sandy Bay Resort.
