Today was scooter/waterfall day. After a late breakfast Sascha and I found the German couple Dominic and Lena at one of the cafes. We made plans to rent our scooters and head out to the waterfall. The scooter rental was 140,000 Kip each which was a bit more expensive than Thailand, but in the end it was still a pretty cheap way to travel.

The drive out to the waterfall was approx. 25km and was a winding road through the Laos country side. Green mountains in the background with rice fields all around. Hmong villages were strewn all along the road and didn’t get a chance to stop at any of the road side stands to check out what they were selling as we had a 3 bike caravan and were on a mission. It was a beautiful ride and I hope to post better pictures as soon as I can.

The waterfall was incredible. The waters were a light green color and flowed down in layers. We took the path less traveled as we saw less and less hikers.  At the top of the hill was a local woman peeling sugar cane for us to try. After a slightly confusing hike through the jungle, we finally found our way out.

Tonight Sascha and I hit the town. Since everything closes at 11:30 we had to get a early start. Utopia was our destination. After they booted everyone out we caught one of the unbelievably full tuk-tuks to the “Bowling Center”. As it turned out, they really do bowl there. We played a round, and then watched all of the Euros try bowling for what appeared to be their first time. After about an hour, the place was packed and getting sloppy. Beers were guzzled and bottles of whiskey being swigged straight out ‘o the bottle – not by us of course, but it was an amusing sight to see. Painful, but still amusing.
